Let us remember to pray for YLDP this year. Below are the prayer items:

YLDP PRAYER ITEMS

1. LEADERS , HELPERS AND FACILITATORS
- To walk closely with God. To be sensitive to the prompting of the Holy Spirit to lead and
help in the area that He has called you to.
Wisdom and discernment :
- to lead and facilitate the group that has been assigned
- to mentor, counsel and lead youths to Christ
- Protection and good health
- Unity and humility among leaders and facilitators.
- Boldness and courage to share His Word and His Truth with the youth.

2. SPEAKERS – DANIEL SINGH
- To be firmly grounded in the Word of God to ensure that every message cuts through to
every heart.
- Protection and good health
- Clarity of message when it is being shared out
- Obedience to the Word and God’s prompting of the Holy Spirit

3. PARTICIPANTS – PRE – LEVEL (13-14), LEVELS 1,2,3 (15 -17) AND COLLEGE
LEVEL (18-25)
- Youths will start right with God.
- There will be a revival and healing in every heart and life
- There will be repentance, surrendering and turning of hearts back to Christ
- Protection for the participants that there will be no circumstances or inevitable accidents.
- Every participant will be touched and they will experience God in a real and personal way.
- Bondages of sin will be broken.
- Youths will deny themselves and decide to follow and obey God’s every word and allow
God to use them as vessels and channels of blessing, love and peace and that god will place
them as a beacon of light among their families and friends.
- Willingness and openness to receive and hear from God.
- Good fellowship among other camp participants.

4. GENERAL ITEMS
- Journey mercies for those traveling to attend the camp
- Good weather throughout the 6 days of the camp.
- All electrical equipments and musical instruments will work well.
- God’s spirit will move and God’s love will engulf everyone present.

Praying and Listening

Sun was setting, the last portion of the twilight was shining through the balcony to remind me it was time to make the decision. I had been walking around my living room as though the steps that I took would help me to decide if I should go for the youth prayer meeting.

Four years ago, when I was still a two to three-month old christian, I was invited to join my church youth prayer meeting. I can still remember clearly that it happened over lunch after church, and I regreted going for lunch with that bunch of youths that I did not really know. I was thinking to myself that the stupid lunch had put me into a difficult situation which I had to make a decision to either turn those people down by not going for the youth prayer meeting, or making myself uncomfortable to go and join something that I was not familiar with. The prayer meeting was starting at 8pm, and I was still trying to make the decision at 7:45pm. It was very hard to make the decision, but I somehow made up my mind to go for the prayer meeting at 7:50pm.

I flew (my term of driving very fast and like a mad person) to church and I was on time for the youth prayer meeting (wow! I really flew. It actually took 20 minutes to reach church from my house). My life as a christian was never the same since the first time I joined the youth prayer meeting.

I was touched by God, and I desired so much to be able to pray like those youths prayed and hear from God like those youths heard from God. I can still remember how desperate I was to ask God to enable to pray and also hear from Him. I asked and asked, but nothing seemed to happen... When I was about to give up on trying, I somehow decided to plead with God again, so I broke down and I cried out to the Lord during one of the prayer meetings...

"God, enable me to pray! Not for the sake of praying, but pray according to Your heart!"
"Father, speak! I'm listening! Speak into my heart so I'll know Your will!"
"Let me hear!"
"Let me commit my life to pray!"

I pleaded with God desperately until I could not even hear the people around me pray. Suddenly, I felt a gust of warm wind blowing into my face, and bible verses started coming into my head, and everytime I read each verse someone in the group would be praying the same thing. And, I heard (or should I say I felt?) God saying that: "I'm revealing what I'm doing".

I was so amazed! First time in my life that I felt the closeness of my Father, and I can never be taken away from Him anymore (though there are times I stumble and fall).

God has been disciplining me to pray for myself, my family, my youth group, my church, and the most importantly His will to come true. There are times, I do not feel the presence of God, and He just seems so far away; but His faithfulness has taught me enough to trust in His word instead of my own feeling. He is always with me, and He always hears my prayer.

I pray through bible passages whenever I do not feel (see! It's my feeling again!) like praying, but I discipline myself to pray because I know this is what God wants me to do. Praying is never about me, but about Jesus.

I have learnt to trust God in the quietest moment (Ok, I've still a long way to go, but...) by praying until God moves/works. I wanted to give up on this Youth Prayer Network blog due to the lack of support from the young people from TRAC, but God reminded me to hold on and trust Him. So, this is what the whole team and I are going to do.

We never pray alone

Romans 8:26 And in the same way the Spirit also helps our weakness; for we do not know how to pray as we should, but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words; 27 and He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

I count it all joy to be able to write for this prayer blog for our young people in TRAC who are growing in their walk with the Lord & blessing the world through a deepening prayer life. As Henri Nouwen puts it – “A spiritual life without prayer is like the Gospel without Christ.”

The above Bible verses assure us that God Who is the “author & perfecter of faith” is the initiator & enabler of prayer. It is God’s committed & passionate pursuit of us that calls us to prayer; God’s desire for us, not so much our desire for Him, is the root & basis of prayer. The desire for communion with God is a God-given desire; hence our hearts will remain restless until it has found full & satisfying union with our Maker & Redeemer. Hence the need to pray, & to pray unceasingly. In the wider sense of the word, to pray means to live & think in the presence of God – in our daily life. It is the raising of one’s heart to God.

What we commonly call intercessory prayer is quite simply God’s call to His people to interpose for another – to take up the cause & concern of another in prayer to Him. We may “step in” or take up various causes for others such as healing, direction, blessing or any other grounds for the bestowal of God’s favor. In the above verses, we see the power given to us to fulfill God’s desire & call to a deeper level of intercessory prayer experience. Intercessory prayer is a staple & necessary feature of church life in the New Testament church life.

Romans 8:26 tells us that to interpose in prayer for others, is an invitation to pray with the Holy Spirit. We are not doing this alone, albeit we have a role to play. The Spirit invites us to look to Him even as we begin with placing intercessory prayer itself in the setting of our relationship with Him. We turn to Him by asking how am I to pray for this situation? How is this cause to be taken up with God? Prayer is not a lonely journey undertaken by me alone & dependent on my own effort to make it work. In matter of fact, prayer is the work of the Spirit inviting me to join Him in interposing for others. At the height of my weakness, when I am confused & bewildered & do not know what to pray, I am all the more reminded that I must intentionally depend on the Spirit. I must remember that I will be helped & guided in praying – as I join Him to take up the cause for another person or party. We need not let any situation intimidate, overwhelm & defeat us in prayer, as we do not pray &…walk alone.

Earlier this year, I was praying for a “tough case” in which a couple who loved & served the Lord have serious marital problems & needed help (we find such paradoxes exist). But one party was stubbornly resisting seeking help. During a group prayer, I felt the Spirit leading me to pray using 2 Cor 10:5 for that resistance to be broken as we interposed for this couple. That very day I received news confirming that, that resistance was broken, as now both are open to others helping them. I continue to learn what it means to “join the Spirit” in prayer; to so live that, He can pray through me!

May each of you find the joy of “praying in the Spirit”, as the Spirit prays through us. Let us also gather with others, whether in smaller “where 2 or 3 are gathered in My name” situations or in larger settings – but always being active participants, not passive by-standers, in joining the Spirit in interceding for others in every gathering. This is a key feature through which God honors the Korean Church. It was an unforgettable experience for me on the 13 April 2008 when I worshipped with at least 4000 youths in the Yoido Full Gospel Church in Seoul, Korea. This was their regular Sunday Youth Service in the afternoon. When it was time to pray, no one was a spectator (unlike going to a football match in a stadium where a passive 4000 watch 22 active others producing all the action “up front”) – the church reverberated with an unforgettable volume of passionate prayer offered with outstretched, lifted hands that ascended to heaven for at least 15-20 minutes! That is why they are so fond of “all praying aloud in one voice”.

When we humbly but passionately join the Spirit in intercessory prayer, we shall witness God’s visitation in a powerful way in our life, in the church & in this land, Malaysia (especially at this time of our country’s history). We shall experience what the apostle Paul says in 1 Cor 2:9 – “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.”

- The youths will continue to be grounded in God’s word. They would develop the discipline of prayer and time in reading the bible.
- The newly form MYF committee to learn their roles in leadership and would develop humility, teachable heart, responsibility and commitment in serving.
- The counselors who have been walking alongside with the youths will continue to find strength and joy in mentoring them.
- Both the MYF committee and counselors will continue to work as a team in unity and harmony.

WMC, Ipoh

-Short of youth leaders, MYF counselors and BB officers. Pray that the leaders are more sufficient to run programs without too dependent on me.

-Many who are serving in youth work are hands full with other ministries and personal commitments. Unable to spend much time with youths

-Youths are facing many challenges. Attending church service/youth activity each week is becoming one of the many classes/events attended by them. No priority to God as tuitions, swimming class, piano etc are taxing on them.

-Some parents do not realize the importance of investing in their children's spiritual growth by supporting/encouraging their children to attend youth programs
-Pray that I (Edwin – Youth Worker) will be able to sustain the various responsibilities/ministries in church and pray for God's Hand upon me

WMC, Subang

-Pray for Wisdom & guidance for preparations towards organizing Youth Alpha (planning currently in early stages)

Trinity MC, Sg Buloh

-Pray for the resources used as it is not easily available
-Pray for the counselors and members to move in the Lord
-Pray for those who wants to join the meeting on Saturday but unable to join
-Pray for the youth to grow spiritually, closer in bonding with one another and grow in numbers

WMC, Kampar

-MYF is not functioning at the moment as the fewmembers have left Kampar for further studies. We aretrying to encourage some Sunday School children whoare in Form 1 and above, to join

-MYF but they are notso keen. Do pray that with the encouragement from theSunday School teachers, they will come and join us.

-We are now embarking on this Campus Ministry toreach out to KTAR and UTAR students. Do pray that weare able to bring these students to join the MYF.

-Pray for the MYF Counselors as well. Pray thatour zeal and passion to reach out to youths will notdiminish. Both of us, myself (Mrs Susan Chan) and brother Marn Foo have been in this ministry for more than a decade and at times, we really feel 'burnt out'.

-Pray that our youths develop a sense of belonging to the church as the church renews its calls to the youths to be a part of the community of faith and not forsake this call in their pursuit of career and educational qualificationsOur church is embarking on a project to build a new addition to the existing church buildings thus increasing our physical resources and capacities for teaching, outreach and growth by 2010. Pray with us that our youths will adapt to the transition and draw synergies from the new opportunities arising and take the lead from the Holy Spirit in making the change a transforming event that will bring us closer to Christ-likeness

-Please pray for God's vision to be shown on our youth, His plans for each of them, and God's continued guidance and blessings in their life, blessed their relationship with their parents.

-Pray for our youths to be True disciples of Christ. We hope to see more commitment and vibrancy in their spiritual lives.

-God will raise up Godly leaders who are matured and committed

-The youth group members will be united and truly care for each other

-God will create opportunities for the youth group to reach out to other non-Christian’s youth in

Enlightenment – Youths for the Future

The youths are the future of the church and are the prophetic voices that will help bring the church into the future in a relevant manner. But in order to be able to provide that kind of a leadership, the youths need to have the anchor of an enlightened heart (an inner awareness provided by the Holy Spirit) in knowing intimately 3 areas – the hope to which God has called them, the riches of God’s glorious inheritance in the saints, and his incomparably great power for them who believe.

If youths are going to be influencers in this day and age, they need to firstly know the hope to which God has called them. “Hope” for the Christian is not a “maybe” kind of thing but a certainty of confidence that does not disappoint (see Romans 5:5; Hebrews 11:1). Our confidence in the calling of God for our lives is so sure because God Himself has guaranteed it by giving a deposit, the Holy Spirit, as a down payment guaranteeing the progressive and full experience of the pleasures of God’s heart in our lives in a day and age where we seek adventure and excitement. The whole universe and life is a God-given playground of certainties where we do not need to fear any evil because He is there (Psalm 23:4).

A second anchor for influence is the intimate knowledge of the riches of God’s glorious inheritance for them. It is awesome to know that we are heirs of God and co-heirs with Jesus Christ (Romans 8:17). That means we are going to inherit lots – every spiritual blessing (Ephesians 1:3); co-seated with Christ and sharing a fantastic amount of authority instead of living like an underdog in life (Ephesians 1:20-22; 2:6); and so much more.

Thirdly, youths need to be aware of the great power beyond comparison that is available to them. It is the same power that raised Christ from the dead that is available to us (Ephesians 1:19-20). It is so difficult to describe the immensity and dynamism of that power that 3 words have to be used to describe it – power (ability, abundance, miraculous power); mighty (dominion, vigour, strength); strength (forcefulness). It is the resurrection power that triumphs over death. And if death can be defeated, what else in our lives can that power not deal with? Pain? Betrayal? Emotional wounds? Even a broken heart, God can heal (Psalm 147:3).

We need to pray for our youths to be anchored with intimate awareness in all 3 areas so as to become a springboard for the great and exciting things God is going to do through them in our churches and in our land.

1. For all the Methodist youths of Trinity Annual Conference (TRAC) through out Malaysia to read the same articles on prayer.
2. Directions and activities will be shared on this blog, so that the Methosist youths of TRAC through out Malaysia will see and catch the same vision.
3. For all the Methodist youths of TRAC to send in share their testimonies here to encourage one another.
4. Prayer requests will be updated on a monthly basis, so we can pray as one (we might change to a weekly basis if there's a need).

How to send in your testimonies and prayer requests?
Please send all your testimonies and prayer requests to youthpn@live.com, we'll edit (if there's a need) and update it on this blog.

Of course, we strongly encourage testimonies concerning answered prayer and also prayer requests that concern the youth as a whole (like, youth rally, evangelistic camp, crisis in a youth group and so on) to be sent in.

Personal prayer requests will not be updated on this blog, but we might reply you personally if there's a need.
